Friendly Nations visa

Definition

The Friendly Nations visa lets citizens of ~50 countries with ties to Panama gain residency by proving an economic link — local employment, a bank deposit, or a property purchase from $200,000 (parameter current as of 2026). It grants 2-year provisional residency, convertible to permanent.

In practice

For years it was the flagship route for Americans, Europeans, and Latin Americans, and it remains competitive: its $200,000 real estate threshold is lower than the Qualified Investor's, in exchange for a two-stage path instead of immediate permanence. The country list and requirements get reformed periodically. If your passport is on the list and you already plan to buy a home, aligning the purchase with this visa is usually the most efficient play — we coordinate it with partner immigration attorneys.
