Pensionado (retiree) visa
Definition
The Pensionado visa is Panama's retiree residency program: it requires a lifetime pension of at least $1,000 per month (or $750 when buying a local home from $100,000, parameters as of 2026) and grants residency along with the famous retiree discount package.
In practice
It's one of the most-cited retirement programs in the world, and the $750 home-ownership variant ties it directly to real estate: buying can lower the required pension threshold. The retiree discounts (transport, healthcare, entertainment, utilities) apply to daily life and are real. Important nuance: the traditional Pensionado visa doesn't lead to naturalization by itself — citizenship seekers usually prefer other routes. As always in immigration: a partner attorney confirms your case.
